Mysore

While visiting Mysore last Sunday, I took a picture of the Rajendra Vilas Palace, now a heritage hotel, built on the top of Chamundi Hills. This photo was taken from in front of the main palace, which is now a government run museum.

There are a few temples within the palace walls. This temple is at the North entrance and this at the south entrance, where one needs to buy tickets to enter the palace.

Visitors to the palace are not allowed to carry cameras into the museum, so we had to deposit them to be stored in lockers at the entrance. It took us about 2 hours to go through the museum.

When we got out of the palace, there were these Tongas, the old fashioned "cabs" of the city. Some of these are decorated quite well.Nowadays, they are used for joyrides and to take tourists to other sights in the city.

We decided to go to the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, another heritage hotel in Mysore, for lunch. Here is a close up of the entrance.

The hallway has this beautifully sculpted rosewood elephant with ivory inlay work.

Lunch was served in their magnificent dining hall, which was probably used as a ball room during the times of the royalty.

We returned to Bangalore at about 6 in the evening.

Welcome

Thanks for visiting. This is my first post on the blog. I probably would not have done it, but for the great opportunity to travel during the last weekend with the Mensa group to Shravanabelagola, Halebid and Belur.

We did have a wonderful outing.

Here are some pictures I took during the trip.

Cheers!
